Nestled in Mumbai, Art Haus, a 3000 sq.ft residential project, exemplifies the grace of minimalist interiors. Crafted by the collaborative efforts of Shobhan Kothari and Anand Menon from ADND, and adorned with furnishings by Sakshi Pathak, this home harmoniously combines practicality with aesthetic allure. For additional insights into the project, the designers have provided exclusive details to SURFACES REPORTER (SR).
The house, with its existing four bedrooms and bathrooms, required no major spatial changes. “The client is an ardent collector of art; so we focused the theme around the art, rather than creating a detailed kind of a shell. Interestingly, the house already had a structure of four bedrooms and bathrooms, so no spatial planning was required. The client needed all the four bedrooms – one for his parents, two for his children (son and daughter each), and one for himself,” says the designers.
The long corridor, an inherent feature, was transformed into a visual gallery. Driftwood benches and custom-designed wooden seats adorned with art by SevalRaj and Sebastian George set the tone.
Living Spaces
The living and dining areas seamlessly unfold, featuring installations by Martand Khosla and Thukral&Tagra.
The dining backdrop boasts a unique fluted glass design serving both as a display and storage cabinet. The living room, devoid of traditional entertainment units, encourages social gatherings with a view of the sea link.
Bedroom Retreats
Each bedroom tells a distinct story. The parents' room combines a lounge area and bed seamlessly, while the son's room plays with black and white stripes and bold Moroso furniture.
The daughter's room exudes a feminine touch with pastel shades and delicate lighting resembling earrings.
Masterful Master Bedroom
The master bedroom imparts warmth to the space through its monotone palette and wooden accents. On one side of the room, a cantilevered marble study and television unit adorn the wall.
The bed is embraced by a leather sitting area beneath a striking backdrop of marble.
Challenges and Solutions
Designing the long corridor posed challenges, but ADND turned it into a visual gallery, showcasing their signature style. The dual-purpose nature of the house, as both a business stopover and a retreat, required adaptable solutions to accommodate changing art collections over time.
The residence effectively maintains a neutral palette to serve as an ideal backdrop for the owner's displayed art collection across its various rooms. Opting for a brighter color scheme in the house would only serve as a stark contrast to the vibrant canvases adorning its walls.
