Designed by Cadence Architects- a Bangalore-based architecture and design practice, this enchanting residential project in Gauribidanur, Chikballapur, Karnataka is a representation of futuristic and sustainable design. It sits on an ‘L’ shaped plot measuring 3038 sqft with roads on both two sides flanking the house. What makes the project noteworthy is its unconventional facade featuring sharp and asymmetrical angles. Christened Gauribidanur Residence, the building design is a thoughtful result of architects’ astuteness. The incisions made into the exterior’s chiselled mass allow ample light to enter the interior spaces, maintaining the privacy of the rooms. Made by using natural materials, the building ensures a minimum carbon footprint. The architects have shared more information about the project with SURFACES REPORTER (SR). Take a look:

The building, at very first glance, appears as if it is bent, cut and then shaped with wood and metal panels. Moreover, it does not seem like the building has windows, but it definitely has panoramic glazing, which is not perceptible from the road. The addition of the green plants, shrubs and miniature trees in the exterior gives the project a sustainable and ultra-trendy feel.
Multifunctional Spaces in the Ground Floor
The ground floor of the building comprises the car park area, entry, living space, kitchen dining and a guest bedroom. The organization of the program on all floors happens along the two arms of the ‘L’.
Double-Height Living Area
The living room has double-height volume incorporating the prayer room with a staircase and bridge traversing the spatial void.
This area forms the soul of the home, bringing the family together. The staircase has been articulated to make a definitive statement across the void.

One edge of the living room dissolves into a narrow strip of green flanking the compound wall of the property.
The topmost floor has the family entertainment area that opens up into a terrace garden. The garden is rendered with the same formal qualities as the exterior form of the building.
Volumetric Deductions on the Facade
The firm has performed a series of volumetric deductions from the façade to make it look unusual.
The bold exterior façade is visually appealing and fulfils the functional purpose of the house, and is well-thought-out for arranging private terraces on the top floors.
Sloped systems are created to hide the entrances and windows from the outside views.
